Purpose

Experiencing emotions and navigating through them can be a joyful experience or at times, it can become messy, unclear and confusing. These tensions that can be sometimes both positive and negative can disorientate us or reorientate us. Where are you on this path?

This workshop is about discovering the journeys experienced when we are trying to reorientate ourselves as we navigate through practice.

Instructions

  1. Head to the Journey area on the Caring Spaces board and start by revisiting your love letter.
  2. Splitting into groups of two, use this time to go into a breakout room to discuss if anything has changed from the time since you have last written your letter. Did you have any new insights since? Where are you currently on your journey since your letter? Share the conversation with your partner.
  3. Back into the main room, reflect on the conversation you just had, think about where you are on the disorientation or reorientation timeline. Mark wherever you are using a shape of your choice on Miro.
  4. Using your collated thoughts and letters from the last workshop, start to map out your journey on the timeline. What kind of experiences do you go through that may lead you to feel disorientated? What helps you recenter yourself?
  5. Once everyone has mapped their journey, the floor is now open for discussion. What was something that you learnt about yourself or your journey from your map? Looking at the overall ‘workshop space’, what’s something interesting that you can see from the activity? Take us through your journey.
  6. Save your work by bringing it into the Journey space. Date it and get everyone to sign off with their initials!

Facilitator Notes

  • Use the provided timeline template or feel free to draw your own!
  • Activity can be done in partners with tables split up onto the collab space. For smaller groups of up to 4 people, you can do it on one timeline
  • Larger groups, use breakout rooms during the main discussions to provide a more involved discussion with the participant. Allow 15 mins for this. You may want to bring everyone back into the room to do one final check-in to see how the activity went.
  • Good to remind participants that there is 'no right or wrong' way of doing this.
  • Use the ‘Journey’ on the Miro template space as a way to trigger thinking. Check-in with each group to ensure if they need help. If too complicated, break it down to keywords and start there. As the connections start to happen, map it out.
